News & Insights — How We Cover Morocco
This page explains what Moroccan.biz means by "news and insights", how we source and structure that coverage, and where to find the underlying data directly. Moroccan.biz is an editorial information portal, not a live newswire: our value comes from long-form context, periodically refreshed, rather than from a feed of breaking bulletins.
What we cover
Our coverage is organised around the questions investors, analysts and expatriate professionals most often ask about Morocco. Four themes recur across the site:
- The macroeconomy. GDP composition, growth drivers, inflation, trade and current-account balance, foreign direct investment, sovereign debt and credit rating, Bank Al-Maghrib's monetary policy stance, and labour-market indicators.
- Sectors. The fourteen commercial sectors that matter most for investment decisions — renewable energy, automotive, aerospace, technology and IT, tourism, real estate, agriculture and food, mining, logistics, financial services, manufacturing, infrastructure, healthcare, and education and research.
- Policy and regulation. The industrial acceleration plans, Green Morocco Plan, Digital Morocco 2030, the investment charter and tax code, financial-sector regulation, the labour code, and environmental rules.
- Practical context. Company formation, free zones, expatriate residency, banking and foreign-exchange procedures, and the cultural dimensions of doing business in Morocco.
How we source the site
Information on Moroccan.biz is assembled from a stable stack of primary and quasi-primary sources. Where several sources conflict, we use the most recent official publication and flag the year in the text. Typical sources include:
- Moroccan institutions. High Commission for Planning (HCP), Bank Al-Maghrib, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Office des Changes, AMDIE, OMPIC, the Casablanca Stock Exchange and AMMC, the CRIs, CGEM and the sector federations.
- International organisations. World Bank, IMF, UNCTAD, OECD, World Trade Organization, World Tourism Organization, African Development Bank, European Commission trade statistics, IRENA and IEA for energy data.
- Recognised trade press. Specialist publications are used for market colour on individual transactions, tenders and corporate moves, and are always read against primary filings or regulator disclosures before a figure is carried over onto the site.
How pages stay current
Sector pages are reviewed against the relevant ministry's most recent annual report, HCP's national accounts release, and Bank Al-Maghrib's monetary-policy reports. When a headline number moves materially, or when a material regulatory change is published in the Bulletin Officiel, the affected page is updated and the year of each key figure is revised. Minor language and formatting corrections are made on a rolling basis.
What this page is not
Moroccan.biz does not aim to compete with dedicated Moroccan news media (MAP, Le Matin, L'Economiste, Médias24, Maroc Hebdo, Telquel, Challenge, La Vie Éco) or with international wires covering Morocco. For same-day economic headlines, official decree releases, or live company announcements, those outlets and the issuers' own investor-relations pages remain the right primary sources. Where our long-form pages reference current events, we do so to illustrate a structural point, not to substitute for breaking coverage.
Themes we follow closely
- The 2030 FIFA World Cup. Morocco will co-host the 2030 edition with Spain and Portugal. The tournament is already shaping multi-year investment plans in stadiums, airports, rail, road and hospitality capacity. We track its implications across tourism, construction and infrastructure.
- Green hydrogen and renewables. Morocco has announced a national green-hydrogen offer and continues to build out utility-scale solar and wind through MASEN, IPP tenders and private corporate PPAs. This is one of the fastest-moving parts of the Moroccan economy.
- Electric-vehicle value chain. The arrival of battery-cell, cathode-material and component investments builds on Morocco's established position as the largest vehicle producer in Africa and reshapes the automotive supply chain's geography.
- Casablanca Finance City and capital-markets deepening. The progressive development of non-bank finance, asset management and Islamic finance is an evolving theme we follow through Bank Al-Maghrib and AMMC publications.
- Water stress and agricultural transformation. Successive drought cycles are pushing policy towards drip irrigation, desalination and higher-value crops — a structural shift that affects trade balances, rural employment and food prices.
